Netflix reveals trailer for Anime version of Castlevania

by on May 25, 2017

A few months ago Netflix announced that it was producing a new animated show on the cult favorite video game series, Castlevania. Yesterday, the company revealed the first trailer the anime-inspired series from producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey). It’s being written by Warren Ellis ( writer of the Justice League Unlimited show and the Dead Space video game) and animated by Frederator and Powerhouse Animation who has worked on shows like Wow, wow, Wubbzy, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Fairly Odd Parents and most notably, the ultra-popular show, Adventure Time.

Check out the trailer below. The content of the show is definitely aimed at Castlevania’s core adult audience, the same people who played the series when it started back on the NES in the late 80’s, i.e. me and people my age (late 30’s, early 40’s). That’s not to say younger people won’t love this show, but I don’t think this will be something I’ll let my 12 year old watch. But for me, this show looks to bring the classic nostalgia to life, albeit animated.

The show is slated to hit Netflix on July 7th, I just hope that like most of Netflix’s original programing, this show supports 4K and HDR. That’s like icing on an already delicious cake.
